Frequently Asked Questions

The SHSAT consists of two sections: English Language Arts (ELA) and Math, each with 57 questions. Your raw score (number of correct answers) for each section is converted to a scaled score using a statistical process called equating. The two scaled scores are then added together to create your composite score, which has a maximum of 700 points. There's no penalty for wrong answers, so you should answer every question.

About the SHSAT Score Calculator

The Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) is the entrance exam for eight of New York City's nine specialized high schools. This free calculator helps students estimate their composite score by converting raw scores to scaled scores based on historical data.

The SHSAT is offered to 8th and 9th grade students each fall. The test consists of two sections: English Language Arts (ELA) with 57 questions and Mathematics with 57 questions. Your performance on each section generates a raw score that is then converted to a scaled score through a process called equating.
